A homemade vegetable wash can be a simple way to clean fresh produce before cooking or eating. The safest everyday method is to rinse vegetables thoroughly under clean, running water while gently rubbing their surfaces with your hands. For firm vegetables, a clean produce brush can help remove dirt from textured skin. Remove damaged outer leaves from leafy vegetables and dry produce with a clean paper towel or cloth when appropriate. Avoid using soap, dishwashing liquid, bleach, or household cleaning products on fruits and vegetables. Clean water, proper handling, and clean kitchen surfaces are essential for maintaining food hygiene.
